The same lasting philosophy is what has made W•D Flooring the company it is today.

As pioneers in the lumber and flooring industry since 1872, W•D selectively harvests from a revolving, growing stock, carefully protecting the sustainability of our more than 40,000 acres of majestic hardwoods. But it's the long winters and short growing seasons of Wisconsin that give our floors their uniquely "northern" characteristics.

Tighter grain, lasting durability.

When you choose a hardwood floor, it's sure to be appreciated for generations. But when you choose a W•D floor, you know it already has a few generations under its belt

When selecting a wood species for home or commercial application, often times the practicality of the wood is sacrificed solely for a look.  More often than not, this turns out to be the wrong decision to make.  Often times a "look" can be obtained by some of the exotic, more dense wood out there or by a finish.  Even a custom finish which Kentucky Wood Floors can assist you with.

The best "tool" to help you determine a wood species ability regarding wear and "denting", is known as the Janka hardness test.  Without getting to technical, the chart below is a measure to help you choose a particular wood that is right for you and your particular application.  The janka gives you a general sense of hardness.  Factors such as cut (plainsawn, quartersawn), denseness of the cell structure, and finish also contributes to a wood floor durability.

  • Product - The Northern Michigan hardwood region produces some of the highest quality hardwood in world.  Slow growing seasons, combined with soil that is low in mineral content, provide us with tight dense grain patterns and excellent color density.

  • Quality - Our design parameters and specification tolerances far exceed industry standards.  The resulting outcome is a tighter fitting floor with minimal overwood that requires less sanding.

  • Value - You will be buying mill-direct.  There is no middleman to drive up costs or who may allow for delivery concerns.  SHFC employees work together as a team to monitor and reduce costs.
